About Levering

Levering Thomas, a passionate and seasoned creative, embarked on her artistic journey back in 1960 when she began studying the violin. This early immersion into music led her to pursue advanced education at UCLA, where she earned two degrees focusing on music theory and history.

After graduation, Thomas spent a decade performing and teaching in the culturally rich environments of Portland and Nehalem. During this time, she not only honed her music skills but also discovered a new love for visual art.

In 2005, eager to explore this newfound passion, she pursued a degree in printmaking from Marylhurst University. This experience diversified her creative abilities and added a new flavor to her artistic expression.

Today, Levering Thomas divides her time between teaching music, creating art through painting and sculpting, and guiding others on their own artistic paths. She finds immense satisfaction in helping emerging artists find their unique voices. Her days are filled with creativity and she continues to contribute to the world of art with her multifaceted talents.

About Edward

From a young age of 10, Edward Kort developed a passion for woodwind instruments, beginning his musical journey with a clarinet before expanding to the sax, recorder, and any other instrument he could lay his hands on.

For the past 25 years, Edward has not only played the Native American Style flute but also crafted them, operating under the moniker, Wood Wind. His contributions to the field extend to software, as he's the author of two widely recognized woodwind design programs, NAFlutomat and Woodwind Instrument Designer.

Edward's expertise has led to collaborations with renowned flute artists Jonny Lipford and Annette Abbondanza of Painted Raven, where he had the privilege of transcribing some of their music. His lifelong dedication to woodwinds continues to shape his personal and professional life.

About John Gass

John picked up the Native American Style Flute while living in the Pacific Northwest and has been playing for over 20 years. He first picked up the flute to help feel grounded at the start of his day as a psychotherapist working in an intense mental health clinic.
In addition to his love of playing, John has a passion for sharing and helping others develop their own talents with this beautiful instrument. While living in Washington, he facilitated monthly flute circles (that included a teaching component) and an annual flute gathering.
Since moving to Massachusetts, he has taught flute courses at multiple locations (a veteran’s center, a local art studio, and through a community education program) and is facilitating a monthly flute circle. John has performed solo and as part of various bands, at open mics, porchfests, for non-profit organizations, and at assisted living facilities.
